Dr. Alfiee Breland-Noble is empowering Youth of Color

On what was, at first, just a regular day in late May, Dr. Alfiee Breland-Noble, PhD, learned that she was one of 12 global leaders selected by philanthropist Melinda French Gates to receive a $20 million grant in support of women and girls. Breland-Noble, who goes by “Dr. Alfiee,” is a psychologist in Virginia and founder of the AAKOMA Project, a nonprofit dedicated to the mental health of Youth of Color. She’s widely recognized as a voice and face of psychology in the popular media, and has worked with powerhouses ranging from Lady Gaga to U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy.
