Parents Under Pressure: The U.S. Surgeon General Advisory on the Mental Health and Well-Being of Parents 

At The AAKOMA Project, we are proud to collaborate with the office of U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy in sharing his new advisory release, “Parents Under Pressure.” According to the Office of the Surgeon General, nearly half of parents are feeling the weight of overwhelming stress. At AAKOMA, we know these stressors can be pronounced in unique ways for Parents and Caregivers of Color and those with marginalized identities (dealing with -isms like racism, sexism, xenophobia, homophobia etc.). This stress impacts not just individuals but entire families. It’s crucial that government, workplaces, and communities create systems that truly support the mental health needs of parents, caregivers, and our youth. The Surgeon General’s new advisory offers valuable insights and steps forward, steps that we at AAKOMA promote regularly in support of our youth and their families.
